The second phase of the Honam high-speed rail project linking Naju Gomakwon and Imseong-ri and the KTX project from Incheon and Suwon began in earnest.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that the construction companies for the 6 tool roadbed construction for 3 projects including the second phase of the Honam high-speed railway for the expansion of high-speed transportation services and the KTX direct connection project from Incheon and Won were selected and started construction within this year.

Through the new high-speed rail project, the beneficiaries of high-speed rail will be greatly expanded to include Incheon, the southwestern and central areas of Gyeonggi-do, and Jeollanam-do, which had difficulties in using high-speed rail.

The second phase of the Honam High Speed ​​Rail (Gomakwon ~ Mokpo) construction project is a high-speed new line construction project passing through Muan International Airport in Jeollanam-do. To create a growth engine in the Jeonnam region, revitalize Muan International Airport, and provide high-speed rail transportation for local residents in the Honam region, a total project cost of KRW 2.578.9 billion (50% of national treasury, 50% of the Korea Railroad Corporation) will be invested to complete the construction by 2025. do.

The new route between Gomakwon and Imseong-ri includes the construction of a main line 44.1km and one station (Muan Airport). Among them, this start section is another construction section (Sections 1, 3, 6, and 7, 26.4 km), and the roadbed construction cost is KRW 665.3 billion.

When the construction is completed, the time required between Yongsan, Suseo and Mokpo is expected to be about 2 hours and 10 minutes. In addition, it is expected that the convenience of using railways and airports for local residents in Jeollanam-do will increase, such as improving accessibility to Muan Airport and increasing demand.

The KTX direct connection project from Incheon is a project that connects the Suin line and the Gyeongbu high-speed line. The total project cost will be 423.8 billion won (100% of the national treasury for improving the existing lines, 50% of the new national treasury, 50% of the railway complex).

If the construction is completed by 2024, it will take about 2 hours and 20 minutes between Songdo and Busan and about 2 hours and 10 minutes between Songdo and Mokpo. The inconvenience of citizens of Incheon, Ansan, and Hwaseong, who had to travel to Seoul and Gwangmyeong to use KTX, is expected to be resolved.

The KTX direct connection project from Suwon is a project to expand the high-speed rail service to the southeastern part of the metropolitan area, including Suwon, where it is difficult to access the high-speed rail service by connecting the Gyeongbu Line and the metropolitan high-speed rail. The total project cost will be 277.2 billion won (100% of the national treasury for the improvement of the existing line, 50% of the new national treasury, 50% of the railway corporation). Construction is expected to be completed in 2024.

When the construction is completed, it is expected to take about 2 hours and 10 minutes between Suwon and Busan and about 2 hours and 10 minutes between Suwon and Mokpo.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport expects to achieve the effect of inducing production of 7.2 trillion won and employment of 6628 people by 2025 through this project.
